Advent Planning Workshop
Tuesday, August 24, 2021
3:00-5:00 p.m. (ET) via Zoom
A space to work with other church leaders to plan for the liturgical season of Advent. Our two-hours together will include time to pray with scripture readings for Advent (RCL Year C), an overview of helpful resources, and brainstorming in breakout groups. We will provide a planning template to use during the session and follow up with a list of all the resources shared. Whether you bring yourself or a whole team, we hope this space will inspire intentional, creative planning for Advent 2021 in your context.
Cole Arthur Riley, founder and writer of the well-known Black Liturgies, will provide a reflection on the season of Advent for us. Sarah Bentley Allred, Editor of Building Faith, will facilitate the rest of the workshop.
Cole Arthur Riley is the writer and founder of Black Liturgies, a project that integrates concepts of Black dignity, lament, justice, and liberation into spiritual practices. She currently serves as the Content and Spiritual Formation Director for a Center for Christian Studies at Cornell University called Chesterton House. Her debut book, This Here Flesh, will be published in February of 2022.
Sarah Bentley Allred is Editor of Building Faith and Associate for Christian Formation & Discipleship in Lifelong Learning. Before joining the Department of Lifelong Learning, Sarah served as Director of Children and Youth Ministries for four years and then completed the MDiv. program at VTS with a focus on Christian formation. She is passionate about children’s spirituality, intergenerational worship, and small church formation. She loves local coffee shops, board games, the beach, and exploring new places with her husband, Richard, and their dog, Grace.

Social media for ministry is more than learning how to use the tools, it requires building a strategy for integrating the tools into your formation and communication plans.
